From a 5 bedroom home in Boulder Country Club to a psychiatrist’s office downtown, my month is full of interior projects. While doing some online research for them, I came across this incredible vignette that highlights the style power of primary colors.

Juxtaposing yellow, blue, and red would seem an unlikely and overwhelming design choice, but this tableau works beautifully. It also reinforces the style asset known as the internet, a constant reminder that for all you know, there’s still so much more to learn.

I recently completed work with a new client who confessed her initial hesitation in contacting me. Two months, in fact, of staring at my business card before she was ready to reach out. Her concern? Her size. With exceptionally touching candor, she confessed an initial fear that I would refuse to work with her size 12 body.

My clients come in all shapes and sizes, spanning 0-16, with very different needs. Some have exceptionally small feet, others unusually wide. While one client is long-torso’d, another is skinny calf’d. There are shoulders both narrow and broad, legs both long and short, boobs both big and small, there is always something we don’t love, or that makes shopping for clothing a little more difficult; but the possibility that I, or anyone else, would refuse work based on size is, truly, hard to even comprehend.

Obviously I can’t speak for other stylists on this matter, and I imagine that my size 8 body has become an asset when it comes to dressing others. I know what it’s like to be restricted to certain styles and silhouettes. I know how to be creative in pairing clothing to emphasize assets. But above all, I love helping women look and feel beautiful, no matter their size.

When the Holidays roll around, I have to be up on my gift game. I pour through mountains of catalogues, ear marking and page pulling in order to make the best recommendations for hostess and home, friends and family.

The new CB2 catalogue (which is amazing, by the way) boasts a touch of holiday humor in their disco gnome. This is the perfect gift for someone with an untraditional take on the Season.

Please look for my local gift picks in next month’s Yellowscene Magazine!

I recently completed work with a new client who, over the last six decades, has amassed some truly spectacular pieces that, hanging in the back of her closet, were just waiting to come back to life. Still sporting the same tall and trim physique, a testament to healthy living and amazing genes, she slipped into one piece after another and I sat there amazed at the opportunity (my first) to work with such a special vintage collection.

Vintage pieces must be presented against a modern backdrop of simple, classic items: the more ‘period’ an item, the more basic the rest of the outfit. Pair a blazer from the 80s with a white tshirt and straight leg jeans*, a long kilt from the 70s with a cashmere crewneck sweater and a sophisticated boot, a dress from the 60s with a ballet flat. Remember the rule: the more stylized your vintage, the more simple its accompanying pieces.

*Leave it to the best ever, Gwyneth Paltrow, to properly rock this look.** Believe it or not, I found this photo after I wrote the post. 😀

**It’s entirely possible that this blazer is not, in fact, from the 80s, as GP isn’t known as a vintage-girl (like Kate Moss or Sienna Miller) and it seems a bit short to be a proper relic (double breasted 80s blazers were quite long). However, the influence is obvious.
