I was in my early thirties, recently had a child, and had nothing to wear. I had no time shop, didn’t know what was in style, and therefore was intimidated to buy anything. I wanted to start building a wardrobe, not outfits off the mannequin that didn’t go with other pieces in my closet because I didn’t have the time or know where to shop anymore. A good friend introduced me to Liz and I started following her fabulous blog. Then, I mustered up the guts to have her into my closet. Hallelujah!
Liz is the consummate professional and one of my favorite things about Liz is that she values time as much as I do. She efficiently worked her way through my belongings, including bags, jewelry, coats, etc. Within the same day she sent me links to get started shopping on line. We spent one hour shopping together in great local stores and we got so much accomplished. I used to spend weeks trying to find all those pieces and bringing things home and then returning them. It was so worth the money to have Liz guide me through all the crap to find things that fit, looked fabulous and worked together with other items, and were in my budget. To save the best for last, once this initial shopping was completed, Liz came back to my closet and put all these outfits together for me, head to toe, on a typed up list that I keep in my closet and look at. Genius! Getting dressed for dummies.
Liz did wonders for my home and my wardrobe.
1.5 years ago I was frustrated. I had decorated my 1960s ranch style home with a mix of Mid Century modern, some industrial and vintage pieces that I loved, BUT it wasn’t cohesive. I had scoured all the websites (Houzz, Dwell, Apt Therapy) and attempted to create the feel of what I knew I wanted on my own. However, the result was haphazard at best.
Working with Liz was the best thing I could have done. She really is a genius when it comes to working with my base style and bringing everything into focus and making every piece pop. She is so quick too. By reorganizing, removing items that “cluttered” up the place and painting the walls a different color – my home was transformed. Everyone that comes to my house comments on how great it looks and how it represents “my style”. And every day when I sit on my couch enjoying the look and feel of my home, I think to myself “why did I wait so long??”
So here I am 1.5 years later. I knew what Liz was capable of – she had revamped the wardrobes of 2 of my friends, she did an amazing job on my home – why was I waiting to get her help on *my* wardrobe?
I feel I gravitate to a certain style – slightly conservative, with a love of menswear style shoes (wingtips, loafers, loafers with tassels….you get the picture), a little nerdy with a dash of vintage. BUT like my home, even though I have some great pieces I was stuck in a rut, making sure everything matched; the result was uninspired.
Liz had a great process for the wardrobe revamp. Not one second was wasted. The process is as follows:
1. Check out my closet (20 minutes at most).
2. Shop for pieces that I was missing (I’m sure this varies by client, but we only shopped at 1 place for 1.5 hours – then we were done!) She worked well within my budget.
3. Order items from online. I wear size 5 in shoes, so it’s impossible to find anything locally. She had me order several pairs of shoes with the idea I would only keep a few and send the rest back.
4. Once I had everything, she came over and had me try on various outfits (shoes included) and the ones that worked, she wrote down.
5. Go through my closet and throw items not being used in the donate pile. It was a BIG pile…all those shoes from the 1990s? GONE. Items that didn’t suite me anymore? GONE.
6. She met me at the tailor and directed sleeve length and hem length. I’m short 4’10” – so many things had to be altered.
7. 1 day later she emailed me a detailed sheet of 22 amazing outfits!
8. Learning from her expertise – speaking to how to lengthen my short stature, how to mix up unexpected pieces – I’m quite sure I can come up with many more variations of outfits.
She quickly picked up on my nerdy/slightly vintage style. Her process style isn’t “cookie cutter” – it’s based on YOU and only YOU. What works for me probably wouldn’t work on anyone else. Every outfit pops and brings my style into focus. Several of the outfits are made up of only items that I already owned. Other outfits incorporated the keys pieces purchased during our shopping trip.
While wearing my outfits, several people have asked me if I have lost weight. Nope, Liz just knows out to put things together to bring out your best. I thought it would be hard to let go of stuff, but when I saw how MANY great outfits I had to wear, I loaded up the donate pile and headed straight to the Goodwill.
My closet is so streamlined and my dresser drawers so spacious. Why did I wait so long??
Christmas, that is what working with Liz feels like. She is amazing, picks out items that I did not know existed, but they work in the most fabulous way and have loved them all, and when they show up at your door, Christmas! I am beyond happy with how our project has come together.
I bought my first home/condo earlier this year, and had only a mattress. Never had the need or desire to buy furniture, the thought was overwhelming, which turned out to be a good thing as everyplace is different and unique. So I saved myself much time, stress and expense and bought the right items with Liz’s help. I loved working with Liz, and already want her help on a future project I couldn’t/wouldn’t imagine doing it with out her.
Liz is fabulous! When I first met Liz, I was impressed by her sophistication, energy, and confident design expertise. I hired her to update the interior design of almost all the rooms in my large home. When I told Liz what style I had in mind, she immediately understood and immediately had fabulous visions for each room. I learned quickly to believe in her vision and was rewarded with stunning results! The finished design is fresh and sophisticated and embodies the exact look and mood I wanted to create.
Part of what makes Liz special is her exceptional intuitive sense of how to bring seemingly disparate pieces together. She expertly combines many looks– modern and traditional, simple and showy, serious and lighthearted, new pieces and old favorites, expensive and inexpensive –to create a harmonious beautiful design. This makes every room unique and personal. I also want to note that I have a transitional style home and wanted a more modern look. She was able to expertly create the look I wanted and still have it blend and flow with the style of my home. This is difficult to do and Liz accomplished this perfectly!
I appreciated the fact that Liz knows true quality and understands value. She knows when it is necessary to spend a little more and when it is possible to use less expensive pieces effectively. She is a pro at maximizing the possibilities of online shopping. Through her relentless searches, she was able to find distinctive, beautiful items — at great prices. The majority of what I purchased was online. This made the whole process fast and fun.
Working with her was a joy! She is responsive and direct and works tirelessly until something is done just right. She has flashes of true brilliance when problem solving and creating a vision for a room. Her attention to detail is phenomenal and is one of her many talents that places her a cut above the rest. Her finishing touches take a beautiful room and turn it into a truly spectacular room!
I couldn’t be happier and very much look forward to continue working with Liz in the future.
We recently bought an investment property, we knew it was a great purchase but it needed some work. In comes Liz, she takes one look an instantly has a vision. She works tirelessly to perfect every small touch and little detail, all keeping budget in mind, to create the perfect home. Really Liz brought us something beyond anything we could have dreamed up. Her knack for details and creativity is out of this world and honestly we didn’t come close to breaking the bank on our project. The only problem with Liz is that I can’t seem to stop using her, I want her magical eye on every room in my home!
I’ve had the pleasure to work with Liz for both personal wardrobe and home styling since 2010. Liz has an eye for style elements that are unique and out-of-the-box. She incorporates her design sense to add single touches that set her styling apart from other stylists and designers who always make the “safe” choices. I always feel that I’m getting something personal that fits my personality while at the same time taking me out of my comfort zone with some bold choices. White leather dress with Christian Louboutin heels- yes, please! I’ve worked with other stylists but they don’t compare with what Liz brings to the table. One of my top priorities is that things get done in a timely manner and I know when working with Liz I don’t have to be concerned with delays. I’m currently working with Liz on a master bedroom update, remotely! And it’s been just as fantastic as in-person.
My husband and I began working with Liz after we purchased our new home last year. We started with the family room, which had a huge wall of dark, wooden bookshelves that I did not have a clue what to do with. Over a short amount of time, she completely transformed the bookshelves into a work of art. Taking creative risks, Liz added texture, light, color and beauty to our family room. We and our kids absolutely love it and we always get compliments on the space. We continued to work with Liz on our master bedroom. Just last night my husband told me how much he loves being in that room now, and how good it feels. Over time, Liz will design more rooms for us – She is a true designer and artist. I would chose no one else.
I used to spend a LOT of time each day standing in front of my closet and wondering what to wear – staring at a large quantity of clothing and coming up with the same outfits over and over again (and I use the term “outfits” loosely – usually just jeans, a shirt and some shoes). Then I would stare at my jewelry and have no idea which item looked best with each outfit. I felt like I had some nice clothes, a few pairs of decent shoes and some nice jewelry, but I could never seem to pull a legit outfit together. I was constantly envious of people that looked “put together”.
While I was venting to my friend about wanting new clothes and needing to purge and organize my closet, she told me about Mile High Style and recommended that I contact Liz. At first, I was a little hesitant – for sure, Liz sounded amazing and her services sounded exactly like what I needed, but was I really going to pay someone to clean out my closet? In the past, I had always relied on friends and family for help with this task! And was I really going to pay someone to take me shopping and tell me how to spend more money? Again, I was used to getting advice on new clothes from friends or my husband. My initial gut reaction was that a personal stylist helped celebrities or maybe just other rich, fancy people. Was I really that fancy?
After a short internal debate, I convinced myself that I would hire Liz to thoroughly clean out my closet and purge all of the old and unnecessary items. Truth be told, I was somewhat unprepared when she took *most* of my closet to the consignment store. Mentally, I had not signed up to spend a ton of money or buy a bunch of new items. However, Liz reminded me that my closet had not been updated in the last 5 (um, or 10) years and explained to me how some basic items combined with a few nicer pieces would transform my look to be much more age appropriate and sophisticated. She also assured me that the cost was much more reasonable and feasible than I had anticipated. Although still a little hesitant, I agreed to go shopping with her, and quite honestly, I couldn’t be happier!
Now, that says a lot, considering that I also hate shopping. Everything about it makes me crazy – being in stores for what feels like forever, trying things on and not really knowing if they look good, spending money on items and not really knowing if and how I plan to wear them… the list goes on. Shopping with Liz is an entirely different experience – you are in and out of a store in what feels like a flash, after trying on more clothes than you’ve ever tried on, and you know that what you are buying is good quality, will be incorporated into legit outfits and worn often! I will never shop without Liz again.
Since working with Liz, I am not stressed about getting dressed and do not feel overwhelmed when I look in my closet, as I only see clothes that I know I will wear, that I want to wear, that I know look good on me, and that I know will last for years. My type A personality is so happy and relieved that my closet is completely organized and that I can see everything! And my favorite part of Liz’s services — the style sheets that she created for me with 20-25 outfits per season, detailing all items and accessories – shoes, jewelry, belts, scarves, etc. They make getting dressed so easy, stress-free and fun! I finally feel like when I get dressed, I look “put together”. I am a non-fancy, non-celebrity, just plain normal person who, from now on, will always use Liz to dress me!
Am I Liz’s favorite client? She CAN’T make everybody feel this special… can she?!
I’m hesitant to write about all the incredible details and extra time & care that Liz put into our appointments. I don’t want her to get into trouble with other clients for treating me like her FAVORITE!!
The process was new and intimidating at first. I was most concerned about our shopping budget AND whether her suggestions would be functional for my sporty, bike-commute-to-meetings lifestyle. I have no problem spending money on cycling gear or electronics but never really had a good sense of what to do when shopping for clothes!
Holy Cats!! In a whirlwind of productivity Liz asked a few questions, had me order a few things online to try, came over to my house and zipped through my closet. We headed out to the most efficient (and successful) shopping trip ever! She grabbed pieces, I tried them on at top speed, then headed home with a pile of new options.
One of the core values in the Zappos Book “Delivering Happiness” is “Delivering WOW Through Service.” Liz’s service is the picture of WOW. Seriously! After she assembled my new wardrobe she offered to meet me at Sephora to help pick out a few must-have items to finish off my outfits, brought me some little band-aids to keep in my wallet for shoe emergencies, and had so many outstanding suggestions to share.
I’m so thankful to have some new options, list of outfits so I never have to think about what to wear, and all of the incredible little extra awesome touches she added to the experience. It was not nearly as terrifying as I imagined, very fun actually!
I look forward to working together again and have been telling all of my friends about this terrific adventure.
And, I am loving all the compliments I’ve been getting lately too!
It’s a rare and wonderful thing to come across a person truly born to be doing what they are doing. Their spark of natural ability and genius makes you rest easy, knowing you are in the hands of a master. Liz Finkelstein is without a doubt such a master, sovereign in the realm of personal style, eye-appeal, and graceful spaces.
With a B.A. in studio art, I’ve always had an eye for color and beauty but when it came to my own style or physical spaces I was a bit of a lost cause. Up until working with Liz, I relied almost completely on my boyfriend and my mother for any sense of fashion or décor.
When I opened 90 Monkeys, our yoga school & filming studio in downtown Boulder I knew it was time for professional assistance with decorating the space and designing a cozy lounge where students and community could gather. We wanted something organic and modern. Of course I asked Liz!
I have always believed that an upgrade of your physical space (whether that happens through decluttering, renovating or redesigning) can up your game, calm your mind, and help you become more creative and inspired. But I won’t lie, I was nervous that we’d go over the budget, and it was a rental space, not something we owned. Part of me felt like having the lounge professionally designed was too extravagant and too much of a financial risk. However, I’m glad I trusted my belief in the power of space overhaul vs. fear because two awesome things happened when I took the plunge:
1. Liz was totally supportive, understanding and sensitive to my comfort level. She managed to scout the perfect flooring and pieces that looked much more elegant and costly than they actually were. And she was great at advising me to stick to our budget even when I wanted to choose the more spendy options (I have a tendency to want only the best!) but she also knew exactly when it would be ideal to splurge on the more expensive items because they would deliver the right outcome in the long run.
2. Best part: As soon as I took the leap of faith that this was the right thing to do for our school and community, our website started getting more hits, there was a noticeable increase in enrollment for our online courses, and an upcoming workshop filled so quickly that we had to add a second workshop to accommodate the wait list. And this was before anyone had even seen the lounge!
Within the first 2 hours of surveying and measuring the space, Liz had already designed the entire lounge via a Pinterest board for me to review full of fabulous items and dripping with fun, artistic creativity. She worked like lightening with a contagious enthusiasm, impeccable standards for excellence, and attention to detail. As we refined the process of assessing the space, I’d see a blank canvas with no clue how to paint it, but Liz would see Technicolor and know exactly what to do to fill the space. And when she’d have an idea to solve a problem, it would spark my creativity, only to egg her on further to some new and other genius idea! Before you knew it, magic was brewing at 90 Monkeys.
Through her strong ties to local businesses and connections with vendors in Boulder, we gained access to fantastic deals, charming items we never otherwise would have found, and great service professionals who helped with some light construction, hanging art, and more.
We also had a deadline – a month-long yoga teacher training with 35 international yoga students and mentors coming in about 25 days. Liz cracked the whip to get the lounge completed on time, staying on top of online purchases, connecting with vendors, and stopping by to receive the shipments….orchids & vintage picture frames in tow. Everything came together and voila! The space was utterly transformed into a bustling yoga lounge and we could not be happier.
Perhaps the sweetest thing of all is that every time I sit in the lounge with students and friends, I can feel the love and care that has been put into the space and I have a deep confidence that designing this environment with Liz at the helm was the definitely the right thing to do!
Liz Finkelstein does more than just help you look good, she helps you feel good. As a business owner, it’s important that I look smart and professional — I don’t trust anyone but Liz to make that happen. Liz has a rare and unique gift for pushing you past your comfort zone in a way that is supportive and convincing. Her expertise enables her to see small details that make a big difference. She saves me time and money with her sharp eye and creative flair. She always keeps me within budget and provides a network of equally talented referrals. In addition to her skills and professionalism, she offers advice and council that would rival any therapist. Liz is dedicated to making clients happy and is always wiling to go the extra mile. Liz is the true definition of class and professionalism. I’d highly recommend her to anyone.
I had a closet full of clothes that I didn’t want to wear and felt overwhelmed thinking of going shopping to start fresh. I had just finished my training and was starting a new career as a professional and ready to look the part. As a short and youthful appearing person I have struggled with how to “shop” for my body. Pretty much every object in my closet was from a single outlet store and all in unflattering “petite” proportions. I was ready for a change. I found Liz via Google and have been unbelievably lucky to have found her.
Without a doubt, I was nervous to show her my closet. I’d say that 95% of my original clothes are now being donated to Goodwill and I’m so happy to get rid of them. Even though I live two hours from Liz we were able to find an entire new wardrobe in a day of personal shopping and some additional emailing/online purchases. I have been mostly impressed with how Liz really seemed to quickly understand my personality and how I want to be perceived. All of my new outfits make me feel amazing; I have more self-confidence now than ever. It may seem silly and superficial – but I’ve been so surprised at the change in my own perception of myself. I’ve never been a dress or skirt kind of woman – in my profession, I wanted to be comfortable and quick. Since working with Liz, 75% of my work outfits are dresses or skirts and I’ve felt more professional than ever. My patients, my staff, my colleagues – all are raving about the changes.
Overall, this was one of the best investments I’ve ever made in myself. It’s been fun, educational, and I believe will be an enduring change for the better.
I must have spent 30 minutes each morning staring at the clothes in my closet and coming up with the same outfits time and time again. It’s not that I didn’t have enough clothes to choose from, in fact I had too many and only wore/loved a fraction. I was SO SICK of everything in my closet and needed a re-fresh. I wanted to incorporate the clothes I had and transition into a more sophisticated and stylish look. Lucky for me, I had watched my dear friend ‘Kathleen’ as her style evolved and how fabulous she ALWAYS looked. She recommended I use Liz.
I’m in sales and have various events and trade shows to attend throughout the year. It typically calls for at least 5 outfits and I never want to wear the same outfit twice. I had an event in Newport Beach coming up so I hired Liz to put together outfits for me – she went through my closet and helped me pair items I would have NEVER put together and LOVED them. She added in a few new items and Katy 2.0 was launched! I love the way great clothes/style makes me feel and I loved the way I felt in the outfits Liz created – unstoppable.
Liz is a woman with many style-talents; I was looking to paint my kitchen and had about 35 colors (not exaggerating) on my kitchen wall. I couldn’t commit to a color…Liz came over and in 5 minutes selected a color and it’s AMAZING. In the further I plan to have her start decorating my house – one room at a time.
It seems that every season I have that same blank stare into my closet but the more I work with Liz the better I become at creating a look I love. Though I do wish I had Liz living in my closet! She has an amazing way of capturing my style and expanding my comfort zone. If you’re struggling with closet paralysis then Liz is your girl – she’ll remove the clothes that don’t work for you, add items that do and pair them all together. Your 2.0 is right around the corner!
I have never been much of a ‘Fashionista’. For as long as I can remember, I would rather spend my last dime on a computer or stereo than on a pair of shoes. Until recently, the nicest thing I had hanging in my closet was a pair of Joe’s jeans that some friends practically forced me into buying. I’m not sure what happened, but one day I woke up & decided I needed a fashion upgrade. My closet was packed full of clothes but deciding what to wear was a painful ritual – lots of trying on, finding things didn’t flatter or fit, trying something else on, still not liking how I looked. And when I thought I looked pretty good, seeing myself in pictures would tell a different story. I went into Chelsea one day, saw some information on Liz’s services & decided to take the plunge. Probably one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Liz came to my house, talked to me about my lifestyle & headed straight to my closet. I will admit that letting go of most of my clothes was a little painful. She told me what I should get rid of, what she would take to the consignment store for me and, most importantly, what I needed. I was a little tricky because I needed a casual wardrobe for wrangling my kids, a professional wardrobe for work and a fun, chic outfit for evenings on the town. I learned what shapes worked for my body, how to dress more age appropriately without looking ‘old’, how to find fashionable heels that I could stand in all day (challenging but possible) and how to put together a complete outfit. She didn’t just tell me what to wear but WHY I should wear it. I’m not sure how she did it, but Liz really figured out my “style” and created a wardrobe that was uniquely me. I have watched her work with some of my friends & the closets she has created for each of us is completely unique. Our shopping trips are all business & I always come home with bags of fantastic outfits.
Fast forward to today. My closet contains about half as many clothes as it used to yet I have triple the outfits. I feel like I can ‘shop’ my closet, mixing & matching, knowing that everything is going to fit & look great. I now understand the difference between ‘quantity’ and ‘quality’. When I am lacking a little inspiration, I just refer to my awesome 3 page list of outfits that Liz made for me (and is constantly updating). I am emailed links to online clothes when Liz sees something that would work well for me. I get compliments on my appearance daily. I feel amazing.
As a student in Liz’s fashion school, I am probably only a sophomore or junior. This fashion stuff takes a little work but I am loving the challenge of learning new things. And having Liz around to help me when I need her (especially the emergency texts from dressing rooms) is such a great bonus. I cannot recommend Liz highly enough. As I said earlier, hiring her has been one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself.
Liz Finkelstein of Mile High Style is the complete package! We’ve had the honor of working side by side with her for several months on our new studio office. Thankfully she signed on at the beginning of the project and has worked tirelessly to transform our shell of an office into the studio we envisioned, plus some! She is a consummate professional working day in day out to ensure all details are covered.
We provided her with an inspiration board on Pinterest; she went with it and completely exceeded all expectations. From suggesting to testing paint colors, providing recommendations on the build out, to completely helping us choose furniture, lighting and details (down to a vintage bar cart we found on Ebay), we are in awe! Liz is someone you want in your corner, whether for personal, home or business styling. She is tenacious about making sure her clients are 110% happy and goes above and beyond. Our new studio space is so much more than we could have even dreamed it to be because Liz saw our vision and completely elevated it. We love you Liz!
Today was an ideal example of how Mile High Style improved my life. As a mom of children and a business owner, I am naturally running late in the mornings. Prior to working with Liz, this particular morning I would have just grabbed a basic black t-shirt, jeans, some fun earrings, a usual bag and shoes and been out the door. Nothing horrific, but nothing would have stood out. Let’s just say I would have looked ‘fine’.
Instead, I pulled out an outfit that Liz had already designed that included some of my favorite pieces, both new and old. Because Liz worked with items I already owned, I still feel like me, but just a wonderful and noticeable version.
Is it easy to always go along with a stylist’s suggestions? Of course not. However, I’ve found that Liz is always spot on with her ideas and concepts for me. However, it is I that might not always be ready to take the leap. So, in sessions, we will debate her concept bit. If I can’t, I tell her I’m not ready, and we move on to something else. (I know that she secretly hopes we will come back to her incredible idea later, and sometimes we do!)
Her suggestion for me to acquire two ‘big girl bags’ instead of ten ‘average’ bags was hard to conceptualize at first. My initial reaction was “What Liz!? Four digits for a bag?” She calmly asked me to trust her. After discussing it, she professionally sent me to the blog piece she had written several months prior that simply illustrated in detail the idea and justification behind it. Now that the ‘big girl bag’ is my reality, I could not be a bigger believer in the concept. Liz helped me see that the quality and the grade of leading pieces like a hand bag can truly make an enormous shift in my wardrobe and ultimately my image (not to mention actually saving money over time!) . I am proud to say I am on my way to Big Girl Bag #3.
So back to today. Because of Liz and Mile High Style, it doesn’t matter who unexpectedly stops by my office unannounced or what last minute invitation I might receive because I look fantastic and ready for anything. As a woman in a fast paced business, that is a confidence I can’t afford not to have.
Liz, thank you for assisting me to uncover an incredible me that I couldn’t have found without you. But an even bigger thank you for continuing to use your extraordinary talents to help me evolve into the most fantastic version of me every time we work together.
Having never written a testimonial or review ever, I felt compelled to share my experience and journey with Liz Finkelstein from Mile High Style. I first approached Liz via email after turning 50 and wanting to be stylish, but having no idea where to begin. I am one of those women who mistakenly believed that more was better and randomly purchased everything that was either on sale or that looked cool on the rack. I have a huge wardrobe full of clothes and live by that old cliché “I have nothing to wear”.
Liz first taught me that quality over quantity makes a big difference, and with her expert eye and wonderful guidance she sorted the quality pieces I already owned, helped me add superb basics to my wardrobe, and showed me how a few select accessories make a world of difference.
Liz has this wonderful way of helping you update your style and wardrobe with humor, compassion, and an amazing ability to know what looks good. I consider myself to be on the start of a wonderful journey with Liz as she continues to make suggestions to add to my growing collection of clothes and accessories that I truly love wearing. I am already embracing all her suggestions and so far have only wanted to wear the outfits that she has made up for me. I love the fact that she makes a list of ready to wear outfits, as I really am a style novice. There is nothing nicer for me than to take a quick look at my list of almost 20 outfits and know that I will look great. Thank you Liz, for helping me regain my confidence and look awesome all at the same time.
Liz transformed my home from so-so to fabulous! I had been working with a furniture store designer and had purchased some lovely furniture pieces but the space was not coming together. Liz asked the right questions and really got a sense of what my husband and I envisioned for our home. Within a few short months the space was transformed. She repurposed and rearranged pieces that we already owned and added those finishing touches that were so necessary. Our home is now stylish and chic but also comfortable for our children and inviting to guests.
Liz is so dedicated to her clients. I often felt like I was her only one (even though I know she was quite busy!) She listens and works to enhance your style, not to impart her own. I cannot recommend her highly enough!
