In my business, I am privy to many conversations between friends in and out of the dressing room. Women like to shop in pairs (actually, we like to do most things in pairs) to get feedback on how clothing fits and looks. Recently, I overheard a young woman express her doubts about a pair of pants she was trying. I don’t recall the friend’s response because I could only focus on how amazing these pants looked on her! They were skinny corduroys and fit her like a glove. I often speak up in stores, telling women when they look fantastic in something, and this was no different. She ended up buying the pants and, I’m sure, continues to receive compliments whenever they’re worn.
We are our own biggest critic. We know our body best, where it bulges, or sags a bit, or is otherwise less than perfect. But what we see in the mirror is often not what others see, and it’s important to remind women of that fact.
In the vast universe of home fragrance, between all the different brands, there are literally thousands of options encompassing candles, reed diffusers, incense papers, sprays, scented balls, and even the old school potpourri. Here’s a recommendation for one of the best, sexiest candles I’ve found.
VOLUSPA embodies the holy trinity of home fragrance: scent, packaging, and price. For all my Boulder readers, you can find this candle at Fiori Flowers. For the rest of you, I recommend Google.
In the word of fashion, it’s important to be mindful of the basics of style.
When you’re dazzled by incredible fashion, sumptuous prints, feminine detailing, plays in proportion, the mixing, matching and styling of it all, it’s easy to overlook the importance of the basics of style: the black and white, the neutrals, the monochrome, the simple, the staples.
Every woman should have the following in her closet: tank tops in black, white and grey (James Perse or Splendid). A silk or cotton camisole in ivory (Hanro or J.Crew). A plain white t-shirt. The more you love and experiment with fashion, the more important these pieces become. They anchor an outfit that, infused with novelty and indulgence, would otherwise be too much.
In two colors reminiscent of Spring, these clutches are great choices if you’re still looking for that bag with a little something special. On top is Helmut Lang and available here. On bottom is Halston Heritage and available here.
