parkerAlthough I consider myself as close to a shopping ‘expert’ as possible, it’s impossible to have detailed knowledge of every single brand. I was recently ‘introduced’ to the loveliest line when I borrowed a friend’s blouse- I recognized the tag reading ‘Parker’ but had no idea this line would become a game changer!

Parker is a line specializing in the silky blouse; very feminine without being precious, high quality without breaking your budget and available in both beautiful solids and fabulous prints. If you’ve been looking for a secretary style silk blouse (which is super on-trend this season), look no further.

The newest addition to the Beautiful In Boulder series is something very new to the scene and much needed: a lifestyle shop full o unique treasures, vintage pieces, indie designers, jewelry, and small batch apothecary. HAVEN is the product of New Jersey transplant Michelle DeHaven, who has worked in luxury goods for most of her career and has thankfully brought her eye and her style to Boulder. While she personally embraces all things boho (beach, desert, 70’s inspired), the store carries enough modern (mid century and otherwise) to appease a more minimalist Colorado aesthetic.

Currently on the floor is Michelle’s top pick: a Milo Baughman smoke glass and chrome table. New inventory is continuing to arrive, but HAVEN is a must-see.

Friends + clients, it’s been quite a Summer! I’ve been busy as a bee with new home projects including my biggest to date: a new build modern 5 bedroom house in the Newlands neighborhood! Additional small projects like finishing a quirky mid-century master bedroom and taking a dated kitchen to contemporary have kept me quite busy. But the biggest project of all has been right here: my website is getting a facelift. By the end of this month, Mile High Style will finally be compatible across all devices and showcasing a dramatic BEFORE + AFTER page! For years I’ve been urged to include photos of my spaces before the transformation and I’m finally listening.

Finally, I’m thrilled to announce that one of the best projects of my career has been showcased in this month’s 5280 Home Magazine! Taking this basement from a clean slate into a forest fantasy world has been, from start to finish, a complete dream and this feature is the cherry on top!

Please stay tuned for upcoming Fall fashion events at Willow + Common Threads as well as the unveiling of Mile High Style 3.0! Cheers to Fall!

Where Surface Meets Substance

When I moved here from New York City in 2009, Boulder hadn’t yet distinguished itself in print as the ‘worst dressed’, but the evidence was mounting with Crocs headquarters and boutiques devoted exclusively to Burning Man. I certainly had an inkling that my stilettos would be an outlier among all the fleece. The reasons I chose Boulder (300+ days of sunshine illuminating a highly educated, liberal-leaning, health + fitness conscious, dog-loving, spiritually-minded, fabulous food-appreciating population) surpassed the stereotypical look of its people; Moreover, by launching a business in fashion + interior design and committing to a career in style, I doubled down on my position that beauty and character are not mutually exclusive- that is to say, loving fashion can easily co-exist with all the internal work we do spiritually, emotionally, existentially, consciously; and more, it should co-exist.

In my 6 years at Mile High Style, I’ve worked with hundreds of women and, like most humans, we’re all unique individuals and also very much the same. Some of my clients truly enjoy fashion and find real catharsis in this particular method of self-expression; others grin and bear it accepting that their personal and/or professional goals are best achieved by presenting a certain way. Others are looking to break the cycle of constantly shopping yet having nothing to wear. In their work as mothers and wives, doctors and engineers, leaders in the community and volunteers, those who stay at home to those who run a business, they believe that style is one wonderful part of our messy, complicated, beautiful whole. It’s where surface meets substance.
