Like many people in this feature, Kate Lacroix could have easily represented either Fashion or Home. A Boulder mainstay, Kate made her name in restaurant PR (The Kitchen, Cured) and recently launched her new venture, The Kollective, a wedding/event brokerage firm that pairs clients with their ideal vendors.

Her home in Wonderland Lake is a picture of thoughtful style: everything, from the largest furniture pieces to the smallest of details, was chosen with intention and meaning. It’s homes like these that I can get lost in, contemplating every little corner. Here’s what Kate has to say-

How would you describe your home’s style? Eclectic. We literally put trash (alley finds) next to treasure.

What is your most prized/favorite item? Our custom Jen Lewin edison orb light. ($3800)

What is your biggest steal? Honestly, I would say this knockoff Ligne Roset couch. It is  1/10 of the price of the real thing, which, literally makes me breathe a sigh of relief as I watch kids crawl all over it. ($1200)

What are your favorite local shops? The Amazing Garage Sale in North Boulder, Cedar & Hyde Mercantile, and Jen Lewin Studio.

What are your favorite decades/eras for furniture and/or design?  We, like most, appreciate mid-century modern but we also like well worn, victorian era antiques.

Does your personal style influence your design and decorating choices? Absolutely. Less is always more, whether we are talking couches or clothing. It’s like writing a poem: we want to be measured by what we leave out as much by what we add in. We also like surprises like taking off the mirror on a medicine cabinet and replacing it with a framed picture.

Fill in the blank: I wouldn’t be caught dead putting ____ in my home? The “wrong” thing. My grandmother always said it’s better to have nothing than the wrong thing.

What do you consider the best design trend(s) of the last 10 years? The crossover between art and design. It is now possible to have everything from drawer pulls to decks made by a designer. Form and function living in harmony = perfection to the design-minded person.

What are some of your other interests/hobbies? Dinner parties, watching film, leisurely walks, and riding bikes to garage sales.

If money were no object, what is the first thing you’d buy for your home? Bertoia wire chairs with the softest, softest custom white leather seat pads.
