As you can probably imagine, I get a lot of catalogues. Some are useful (Pottery Barn Bed & Bath), others have no place in my mailbox (too many to name), and one makes me smile every time: Olive & Cocoa. I always find something lovely for a gift, for my home, or (most typically) a gift for my home.

The most recent issue features one of the hottest items of the Summer entertaining season: mason jars. Petite in size with perforated lids and accessorized with adorable (and equally trendy) striped straws, they’re party perfect.

The problem with packing for a trip isn’t simply what to bring, it’s most definitely also what to wear while you’re away. It’s the closet full of clothes and nothing to wear on the smallest scale: a suitcase (or two) full of random items that have no style cohesiveness… So let me help. In one hour, I consult you and your itinerary and pick and itemize outfits for every day, every event, from casual sightseeing in something comfortable to a night out in something fabulous. If there’s enough time before you leave, I can also locate any missing items (sandals, sunglasses, [sun]dries) to be included in your suitcase.

In continuation of the shoot I styled for Yellowscene Magazine’s Summer issue, I wanted to speak about one of my favorite trends.

I’ve long maintained that childhood impressions inform our later style preferences. As a child of the 80s, I grew up against a backdrop of neon, and while it wasn’t and isn’t the most approachable of all styles, making it work this season is a worthwhile challenge.

For one thing, fluorescents are fun. If the Spring and Summer are all about color (and they always are), neon is color on crack. Essentially punk-y and inherently edgy, adding a touch of neon doesn’t just accessorize your outfit, it makes it.

Echoing my advice to the readers of Yellowscene, the fashion novice should stick to accessories: a scarf, a necklace like the one we used (available at Chelsea), a ballet flat, a skinny belt, a bandeau top, and neon nail polish. For the expert willing to take a bigger risk and incorporate neon into clothing? As far as wearability, the easiest florescent is pink. Look for silk tops and tanks and pair with skinny jeans and an animal print heel, going minimal on any jewelry or accessories.

Remember that the key to pulling off any trend is moderation. Keep the backdrop of the outfit neutral and classic, allowing the trendy piece a place to pop.

Jewelry Care

Jewelry Care: Bathe Your Bling!

Wearing dirty diamonds is like pairing a fabulous steak with crap wine: a total waste. Diamond jewelry collects so much crap during an average day that some begin to resemble their cousin, Mizz Zirconia.

Keep a simple jewelry cleaning solution like this, with a toothbrush (the little brush included is worthless) in your bathroom and, after applying all your makeup and creams, give your rocks a quick scrubbing, at least a few times a week. Rinse, repeat and try not to get too distracted by the sparkle.
